More farmers than fighters
We have been taught by popular culture to think of Vikings as horned-helmeted plunderers
who waved huge swords and spoke only in a roar. In fact, the typical Viking was a
farmer, with crops and animals to tend to. Recent studies of Viking history and artifacts
have helped to reveal a full and fascinating culture that goes well beyond the stereotype.
