Greenland Tourism's Project Leif 2000 |
We have gone 60 miles today and that keeps us happy. We smell the sweet smell
of homecoming in the distance - thus every mile counts. We need the wind, and as
it is now (and as it was in Greenland) whenever the wind blows our way, it's followed
by rain and cold. And, hey! thanks all you guys who thought of us yesterday and crossed
your fingers for a good wind. We certainly had a lot of it today. It was beautiful
sailing in a high, rolling sea, quite impossible to depict in photography. That slow
and yet powerful motion of the boat as she meets a wave, climbs it, exposes her bow
to the white froth beneath and the trust forward as the sail fills to the rim, the
bow plunges into the wave and onto the next one. We like it and it brings us another
mile closer to our goal.
Snorri is anchored again for the night as we are going to cross a body of water
filled with shoals and breakers, and we can't do it in the dark. We were all wet
when we came in and our hands bear the signs of a wet day, handling wet rope, reefing
sail, pulling up the anchors, etc. We hope that tomorrow will bring more northerly
winds. |
