Greenland Tourism's Project Leif 2000 |
Along the lonely coast...constant companions August 30, 1998 Author: Rob Stevens Lat/Lon: 58.30 N, 62.35 W Location: NW side of Bluebell Island Course: Off Cape Uivuk Weather: Clear, dark, wind south Rob again, still in northern Labrador. Some of the guys on
the boat think the Torngat Mountain god is angry with us. I think if he was, he'd
pound us. I also think that since there's no one living north of Nain that he's lonely. We've had a minke whale show up at every anchorage. I think he's lonely too, and following us south. The polar bears have been good, leaving us alone. They ate a scientist at our last anchorage. Our speed of travel makes me understand better why the Vikings waited 15 years to come here, why they wintered over, and why some got lost all summer, ending up in Ireland. Top of page |
