Mother Nature gives us quite a show

Date: August 18, 1998
Author: Homer Williams
Location: At anchor, False Bay, Labrador

Sightings: Many different animals and sea creatures

Hello all.

Well, it was another fun-filled day in Labrador. Today started with pancakes and soft-boiled eggs... M-m-m-m. Then a nature hike around False Harbor, where we saw seal, caribou, geese, moose with antlers, and the polar bear who swam out to greet us soon after dropping anchor. (He sure looked friendly up close.) We wrapped the day up with a fire on shore and a session of "Two Truths & a Lie." Great fun.

I am now on anchor watch, and the stars are beginning to show themselves for yet another light show. Even the jellyfish here put on a good show - each one working like a strobe light, flashing brightly at quick intervals. Can't wait for the moon to light the scene up.

Being on bear watch in the blackness is stressful. I've already jumped up to scan the area four times in the past hour in reaction to what is probably a seal splashing around.

Better get back to my watch.
