Walrus in Hudson Strait

Log Date: August 15, 1998
Author: Dean Plager
Lat/Lon: 61.16 N, 63.50 W
Location: 25 miles SE of Resolution Island
Course: 135 SE
Speed: 8 knots
Weather: Overcast, wind NNE 10-15
Sightings: Numerous walrus

It's 9 PM Atlantic Time and we're just starting across the Hudson Strait. Resolution Island is passing unseen 25 miles to starboard. The seas have smoothed out a bit so it's more comfortable.

While we tried to cook dinner, waves were breaking over the port bow and washing into our "galley." If all goes well - and the wind holds up - we will be on the Labrador coast tomorrow [Sunday] morning.

Several walrus seen as we were leaving Hall Peninsula
